should I trunk it (with a jacket) or should I wear a wetsuit?

I am at the proverbial fork in the road on this one.

I thought: "hey! The surf scholars over at jamboards.com can help with this."

Look at the old surf flicks from the 60's. Those guys trunked it in Cali all year long. Of course, I'm not saying they were warm..

Bottom line is, do what's comfortable for you and don't worry about what the others do. Just go surfing and have fun.

BTW, we start trunkin' here in March.

I voted birdwell's and a vest;) well trunks and jacket because that was the closest option.

    deep south,

thank you for the feed back.

I have seen some of the old surf flicks, like endless summer and what not. heck! those guys were surfing south africa in trunks. oh, the times of yore. surfers were men back then. but like you said, that doesn't mean they were warm.

its not so much a worry about "what the others do", but rather a comfort thing.
i mean... if i am wearing a wetsuit and its to warm...i sure would prefer to not have so much material hindering paddle-ing. likewise, if i show up in shorts, or shorts and a jacket and its too cold, then i am not comfortable , and my session is cut short.

since the spot i surf is a fair trek down a long trail, i am not going to bring a wardrobe of surf gear.

    so....

    what do i do?

Hood, booties, trunks. Don't forget sunglasses. Web gloves optional.

I appreciate the feedback, but the airtemp starts out crisp, then warms up.

    What about that?

Trunks and jacket, upper body warmth counts for alot. The jacket can be shed easily if it gets too warm.
