What to ride during really blown out choppy days?

I grab my 7'6 Thick Lizzy on big blown-out days. Lots of glide to get through the slop, handles some size, can make the drops and has some weight behind it to get into gutless wind swell. Been having fun all week here on the east coast.

I second the body board thing. I went out with my son last night in 4' blown out mess and had a blast. I actually have one of those Morey black ball foamy twin fin boogie board, but a regular boogie board is as good.

Also boogie boarding with fins in rough conditions is an incredible work out for your legs and cardio....I am sore today from all the closeout action!

If you must surf I would go for a foamy, it gets bounced around and maybe not the best performer but I believe injury is a major concern in bad conditions. I don't want any part of a heavy hard board with sharp fins in highly unpredictable surf.

Thanks for the replies. Im going to go down the rabbit hole of edge boards and bodyboards for now.
As a former bodyboarder, exclusively, happy to talk sponges. if you’re looking for something affordable go Custom X. They’ll have some models that are nice and are reasonably priced
