If you could take a quick weekend surf trip for logging around Southern/central California or Baja, what would be your top choices?

Neither, but I am in Australia, haha. My quick trip would be to Scotts Head on the east coast which is a great little town with no high rise and consistent surf. California is on my bucket list though.

San Onofre if down south. C Street, Ventura if closer to LA. I tried to surf both places when I visit. I really like the vibe in the water.

Jalama- really fun waves (usually 2-3' larger than most SB breaks), not nearly the crowds, good vibe AND best damn burgers on the planet bar none! I frequently go there just for the burgers, garlic fries and take my husky for a walk on the beach.

When I lived in Encinitas Trips to Baja were common. Camp on the bluff over looking K38or on the Beach at San Miguel. Lots of places to park the Van roll out the sleeping bag in the Back wake up to the sound of waves. Great memories.
Now it’s maybe drive up to St Augustine. More for the pleasure of being there then for the Surf. Florida is all beach break Some places hold waves better then others. It’s not like going to Rincon, Blacks, Cardiff reef Steamer Lane or Trestles. All those waves have very distinctive personalities.

For the past several years I’ve been taking the kids down to Refugio over spring break - a nice campground walking distance to a fun little wave that usually breaks that time of year. If I want to go north, there are some fun waves around Point Arena. Great camping in Gualala.
