Thicc Booties, Wide Feet

Hi All,

Getting ready for my second NE winter and having a tough time finding the right booties. In NorCal, I had no issue with Size 10 Excels in 3mm and 5mm, but last season I bought a pair of 7mm Excel Drylock booties and they were super uncomfortable. I have size EE feet and, for whatever reason, these boots pinched and cramped my feet all season. Painful and frustrating.

Anyone with wider feet have any luck with 7mm booties? Would love some recommendations.

I'm flat footed and the solites work for me. A couple things though, they can be finicky whether they fit your foot or not. They are heat molded which can help the base form to your foot. The earlier models had a pretty tight internal split toe and can bother some people, supposedly this has been improved in the current version. They don't have half sizes, so that's where it can get tricky on whether they work for you or not. They have a 8mm boot with an internal round toe which might be the call for the NE and you won't run into the split toe rubbing issue. The boots come with a thin sock which you can choose to wear or not. They also sell a 1mm internal sock that you can pair with any of their boots, so you could consider the 5mm boot and add the 1mm sock (but you'd need to size up). I have not used that 1mm sock so I'm not sure how it feels.

Perhaps a local shop carries them and you can go give them a try to see if they might work. Good luck.

My feet and toes are pretty wide (due barefoot walking) but I have no long-term issues with the Excels Infinity 8.0s

Although they do squish my toes a bit for the first couple sessions

Switching from flipflops to (winter)shoes sucks anyway

I love my 7mm O'niell roundtoe boots. Size 13 very wide and flat footed . They take a few surfs for the rubber to stiffen up.

I’m going into my 2nd or 3rd NE winter (time fades away) and I have wide feet. Anyway I’ve been using Rip Curl Flashbomb 7mm boots and I absolutely hate them in terms of how they make me feet feel. They keep me warm and I don’t mind how they work when actually surfing but they make my feet ache both during and post surf. Will look for some of these O’Neills.

On another note I scraped the frost off my windshield yesterday morning and then found beautiful little waves. It was enough to get me looking for new booties.

This is great. Definitely have a pair of wide and flat feet. Not an easy fit.

Thank you @takedown! I checked out Solite and they don't have many stockists in the NE. Many of the online retailers seem to have slim inventory as well. Plus, 8mm seem very heavy duty!

I may give O'Neills Heats a go. Great rec @ekim. For a laugh, I tried Vans booties the other day. Couldn't even get my foot into them.
