Got this George surfboards glider eagle model for super cheap on Craigslist. Had a delam on the deck but was repaired very well. 11’2 and about as heavy as my log that is also from George. Running the andreini 9 1/4 flex, but also wanna try other fins on it. What’s the beta on glider fins?

I stuck to the small fin big board deal for a while. When I got my first glider from Big Steve it was what Skip was preaching. Since then I chatted with Steve and he was opting for bigger fins. I now match the board length in inches (12’ board / 12” fin...) it seems to be working well on my SingleFin gliders. Other folks might like less fin but I need control.

Different strokes for different folks. I haven’t enjoyed a drastically small fin for my glider either.

Maybe not exactly a glider but I dabbled a bit with this 10’6” jon wegener pintail a few years back. Cool side note, I picked it up at a swap in Cardiff and he actually spotted it and caught up with me and said it was a personal from a while back and was stoked to see it again. Another funny story now that I’m thinking of this board, the very first time I took it out very first wave it was in some tiny meager surf just trying it out, hand just slipped out popping up and I fell down, ear hit perfectly to the deck and ruptured the ear drum haha.

It rode great though and I had some memorable sessions on it. I tried several fins but I remember liking the 8.5 Frye fin alright and it had a pretty wild feeling carving with that one. Also did well with a 9” or 9.5 flex fin don’t exactly remember. If I remember it was flat maybe a little roll up front to a rolled vee in the back and soft rail all around. Was a good one I enjoyed it for a few years and let it go. Would’ve been good to take the kids out on now haha.

I feel you need width in a glider in order to get enough curve in the outline so it turns well and isn’t just a point and shoot board. I feel a glider should be somewhat bulky.

I was going thinner and wider on all my boards, but these Hobie gliders have me considering going in the opposite direction. I was planning to go 24 x 3 on my next custom, but got this at 23 x 3 5/8 and got me really curious to go even narrower next time. I'm guessing the benefits of going narrower are felt more in waves with more speed than slope though which I am really enjoying.
