Before I had much of a clue about New Smyrna I paddled outside to a sandbar that I would learn is called Shark Shallows, it wasn’t my day to die

Black tips? Not that big of a deal. It’s those nasty mean as hell Bull sharks, that worry me.
SMB is the Shark attack capital of the world. The Black tips will get confused in less then clear water. Take a bit then spit you out. They really are not very aggressive. A Bull Shark is very aggressive.
While Paddle boarding on the west coast of Florida water was nice and clear I saw a Black Tip curving along as soon as it was aware of my presence. It took off swimming away from me. Two weeks before I was in my Kayak on the Anclote River. Lots of fish in the water. Mullet Snook and some nice size Tarpon. Water was clear. This Bull shark on the bottom took notice of the Kayak and starts swimming circles around me in an aggressive manner. Taking a stroke with the Paddle seemed to piss it off. I was really worried that if it hit the paddle blade he could tip me over. Taking very little strokes I worked my way over to a swallow sandbar. Ran the kayak aground. He lurked for a while in deeper water before getting bored and swimming away.

Yep but, artistically, "Black Tips" sounded better than "Bull Sharks".

Maybe late 80’s, guy and his dog go swimming in the canal off their dock, both drilled by Bull Shark.
Mike Tabeling had his underwater metal detector hunting Spanish gold in the trench along Floridana beach, came face to face with huge Bull shark.
He did find some good gold, one coin financed his move to South Africa

I keep thinking Monster hole would be a good place for Spanish Treasure. Why do they call it Monster Hole?
