Besides increasing the relative rail line, which in theory, would give a shorter board the feel of a longer board and hold on edge, are there advantages or disadvantages from folks who have surfed them. Looking for input on short or midlengths in particular.

Had a 5'4" Arc Moontail from Furrow, it was magic. Having had a couple Arctails between her and Manny, it's a little more apt to hold, maybe the slightest bit more independent flex between the "sides" of the tail. Bridged the gap nicely between an ASQ and a traditional Arctail, a very fun spin on what could be a fishier board.

I tried out a Sunova 6'2" moontail at a demo. What I recall was how loose and fun it was in smallish surf. Should have bought one.

The way I see it it’s all about curves and foam... there’s pintails (or rounded pins) and then there’s everything else. The pins or rounded pins will create more curve from 12” up from the tail to the tail tip. Squares, squashes, diamond tails will cut the curve. Swallow tails, dove tails, moon tails, bat tails, etc will cut the curve and also remove foam making it easier for your back foot to sink the tail... all else is aesthetics.
