Being tow-headed is a double-edged sword.

I like the guy in many ways, I like a lot of his boards and I like the handshaping business incubator idea.

On the flip side, it is both risky and disrespectful to claim full ownership of designs, even down to specific planshapes.

I have a Rolf Aurness-designed triplane 7'9 pintail that was shaped by the late Scott Anderson around 20yrs ago that is a component specific comparison to a Thick Lizzy, I'm pretty sure I don't recall Scott, or Rolf for that matter, claim ownership of that design.

What's the saying? Walk softly and shape a great stick, or something like that....

Agree 100%

Dude can blow smoke marketing wise but it boils down to originators of certain designs and how variations have evolved since. #1 poor quality IMO.

outside of the egotistical, snarky design opinions I don’t believe he’s a bad dude.

Tbh wouldn’t pay legend prices (Wayno/andreini) for a board shaped by him and never will. If I want something in that realm id go the trimcraft route. Which I have in the past and haven’t had problems with the design characteristics, although on the topic of this thread I’d go f/m route from Lovelace over the power cat from trimcraft if I was considering a board like that.

I really lusted over those old Point Concepts hulls he made with the pelican logo back when I was a full on asshull… but it was hard to justify $700+ for a sled from him when Greg Liddle would make you a custom that came in under $600 including shipping from Hawai’i.

Anyone got any real insight into why people hate on that kid so much? He's always been really nice to everyone I know who's ever encountered him.... Even my friends talk mad shit about that kid and when pressed on the "whys" don't seem to have much to offer aside from "because he's there" like Ryan Lovelace is a mountain or particularly large line of blow or dodgy looking single parent in short shorts at the bar at closing time or something...
the reality is its a bunch of shapers hating on him... Ive know Ryan a long time and the people hating on him. Ive tried mediating a bit with no positive results. Lots of frustration with him about comments made about hand shaping vs machines and also bullshit speculation as to finances. Keep in mind, even the cool shapers act like spoiled brats and get bitchy. Most people hating on him have no idea as to why, just a bunch of fucking sheep. Ryan is a nice guy for sure and works his ass off, I know that. Im sure he has rubbed people the wrong way, who hasn't done this though? anyway, 2 cents from this asshole

I'm sure his boards ride great but the minute he claimed vbowl was a design that he grew and developed for 10 yrs and shamed some unknown china brand that ripped "his design" off, that was it. Another reason is I've tried his first gen vbowl and it was crap...literal crap...couldn't understand the hype, so I already had filters of doubts. I was also riding HG exclusively at the time so ya...
I will personally pick up MicroAnt in a milli-sec over vbowl or DoubleEnda in a sec.
I cannot favor anyone who's "styling a style" and claiming as original, hope that make sense. Same may apply to surfing when someone tells you, "that's my move/style", I swear someone did it already in the 50s 60s 70s~ just not known, no internet.
Yeah the bowls is definitely a rip from Wayne lynches evolution board. That definitely rubbed some folks the wrong way. Totally remember all that.... haha

I rode a bunch of those early hulls from Ryan, they were really fun. Fun, but not a liddle... I Have one hull from him still, the SB stub, which is a fun shape. I also own about 20 Liddle so.....
