Depending on length a DT1 can handle some tip time, but don’t know if I’d classify it as “nose riding capabilities”. I have a 9’6 and can get up there for a second or two but have also ridden a 9’0 that didn’t hold and a 10’4 that actually worked well. I am at best an amateur though so for some dreamy inspo check out Tommy Witt. There are a handful of IG videos of him beautifully working a DT1.

Overall the DT1 is a speed and turning machine, especially if the wave has some push. I prefer a flex fin in it. Depending on what he normally surfs, the DT1 is a good all arounder but it really comes into its own shoulder+.

Haha I’m not that bold, just following those that know more than me. When I first got the board I got in touch with Donald’s shop and chatted with Noah Koai, he suggested:

For a 9'6" DT1, we would normally recommend the DT side fins with a 7" or 7.5" finger fin. Another fun option would be a 8.25" DT Cutaway. If you wanted to ride as a single fin, we would recommend either a 9" or 9.5" DT Flex Fin.

Hope I dont get shunned for this one but my 9'2 McVee does a lot for it's size and design. I can go top to bottom. I can noseride. I can middle trim and turn. Extremely easy wave entry.

Is it a noserider? No, I would grab 9'6 Fineline Super B for just noseriding. But is it the board I grab when its small to medium and want to do a variety of surfing, yes. 100%. Is it HiPro? Unsure, I'm not Taylor Jensen.

Dt -2 seems a solid choice, would imagine him finding the dt-1 ‘s narrowness difficult for tip time unless he’s very nimble or only using it in solid waves.

Don’t know how available they are to you but the mctavish Ray gleave models always walked a nice line between 90’s style up turns and noseriding ability.

There must be a Stewart model that fits the bill too? ( if you forgive the pun :)
