Looking for a board for my grandfather, he has a 9'3 in the pink that he loves but finds it just a little too hard to get onto waves with now and is looking to find something different. He's 6'4 190lbs looking for more of a high performance longboard than traditional that can turn well and easily generate speed but have some nose riding capability, not looking for camping out on the nose but be able to pull off a hang 5 or two, either a single fin or 2+1 in the 9'6 - 9'8 range. The waves we surf are pretty punchy beach breaks in the 2-5 foot range but can be extremely difficult to get onto at times with heavy winds. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Should also mention he's not looking to go custom.

more length for your grandpa. i have a 90's tak. 10' performance noserider. looks like an early version of the dt2. something like that pops up on cl from time to time and would stoke him out. if you want new go to mitch's they have stock

Not sure how old you grandfather is, but I am 72. I am shorter than he is by a bunch, but I weight just a bit less. I have been riding 10' boards that are around 3.5" thick. For hard offshore winds I switch to a more pointy nosed board. So a 9'8"-10' pointy nosed board that is anywhere from 3 1/4" up would really work for him. Having had a number of ITPs in earlier years I found that with off shore winds the nose gets caught and pushed back. HTH

He's tried a 10ft cj nelson that he catches tons of waves on but said he would rather meet in the middle of that and the 9'3 itp for something thats easier to turn although the cj was leaning towards a traditional nose rider which doesn't suit his style as much

He's around your age, The narrower nose to not get caught up in the wind makes a lot of sense and isn't something I've thought about.
