Help: I am having a "midlength crisis" or 6'8 is the new 5'8...or honestly, 7'8

So I thought I would share this so at least a few Jammers would feel like they are not alone! In my teens surfing around San Diego, we went from twin fins to tri fins to quads and boards kept getting shorter and shorter; ended up with a 5'4 quad that I sank about a foot underwater but super fun when you actually caught a decent wave. Then my college days at UCSB surfing the points and beach breaks, my boards were in the low 6' range- mostly thrusters as this was the 90's and that's what you did (wish I would have tried a fish).

Flash forward to today, surfing more now than ever since I am fortunate enough to live a block or so from a clean little point wave but my boards seem to be growing! Can't get enough of midlengths! Tried longboards (fun, very fun) but just not my thing. Sort of like when I play golf- I take the club back slow but when I see that ball I can't resist and all hell breaks loose on the downswing- like a nice punchy lined up wave---the drop is clean and soul-full but then that beautiful shoulder pealing needs to be carved up.

Anyone else suffering from what I will call this, "midlength crisis?"

    I am embracing it bro...liberating..
    Best thing i ever did...injuries...surgeries..age...
Age is a number? So is size..
    Bruce Fowler helped recognize that..this..
    In fact "smallest" board
Will be my 7.10 massive when it does come next week..
Right now..these are the fun 3
And now a new 8.6 nvm in the works..

Mind you i like my 10.6 glider..but unless i have
    I dont..

Davo..if you catch tons of the shite outa the wave..
Or trim and glide with and ...have alotta fun...what the diff?

I mean at least you are not SUPing...;-)

Me too Couch! 2 years Ago i went from 5'9-5'10 twinnies & quad fish to a 6'9 single. Now I am on a 8-oh longfish and my shortest board is a 7'2 thick Lizzy.

No desire to go back into the 9ft plus Longboard realm but eagerly waiting for DanSan's massive ride report.

But, then again, please remember that you will be a Cruiser for a lot longer than you were a Ripper.

All my shortboards are midlengths, and my midlengths -- well, you get the idea. Embrace it, I say.

been down the mid-length rabbit hole. they are their own special addiction. coming off shortboards and fish, wave count skyrockets. down from a log and the cutties seem effortless and the their general manners and handling feel like a dream. ride the barrel? check. trim speed? check. glide and flow? check, check.

but... they do get a little boring after a time. lots of same, same.

shortboard/longboard combo friends are like... yeah midlengths do everything but don't do anything well. rather go long or short. don't know if i totally agree but they do make for a bit transition when moving through the quiver.

still have a couple... 7-0 flat tracker (nature's most versatile board?) and a 7-9 double enda (a 7-9 that actually turns!), but i try not to ride them too much. great for the ego though. always make you feel like you surf way better than you actually do.

    drop shoulder head fade out.
