Maibe it´s only me but I don´t like bonzers in very bad and very small waves. My friend has this one in 5´8 (bonzer5) and it paddles ok but I see it needs kind of a better wave than my twin/quads. I love bonzers in good waves but I prefer A good single or 2+1 if the waves are softer.

Looking into getting an MBLV? I'm 5'6 and 140lbs but not sure how to size it. thinking something like 5'4 or 5'5 long, 20.5 to 20.75 wide, and 2 3/8 to 2.5 wide. Any suggestions are welcome :)

Go small - the board has plenty of foam and with the wide nose you will be happier going short since it will fit into the face of the wave better. I say 5'3 20.5 2 3/8 (or 2 9/16 if you're less experienced and want more paddle power)

I'm 5'8 and 145. My last MBLV was a 5'10 by 20 1/4 by 2 11/16 (narrower than standard dims) and I loved it in everything small to fairly large. Just to let you know that it doesn't have to be an ultra shorty even if you're on the lighter side.

I agree. I don't think you want to try and turn an mlv into a mini sims style board. My 5'6 was amazing. Great all round board. Malcolm knows what he's doing with dims, even if they are on the beefy side.

Got it. Hmmm. My neighbor who I surf with has a newish one that is 5'6 x 20.25 x 2 5/8 that he wants to sell me. It's an MB5. I'm thinking it's too wide and thick for me, since I'm 5'6 and 140. However, I'm happy to be wrong about that if those who've ridden this board think otherwise. thoughts?

That's less volume than the one I rode, just a few inches shorter and a bit thinner. I think it would work great, personally. But I guess that depends on what else you surf and how well you surf. The 5-fin is the part I would be less stoked about. I've never surfed a 5 MBLV but I enjoy the 3 setup for sure. That said, I had a 5-fin egg at 6'4 that was also a blast. I would just say a 3 has more traction and drive while a 5 has more release. If you're more performance-oriented, a 5 could be right up your alley on this board.

Seems like a test drive would answer your question the best, if that's an option.
