Advice on big wave backside board. I've been riding an 8'8 vaquero in the East side of Santa Cruz for a while and I usually only take it out when its over 5ft. I like how it performs backside but I've always wondered what of his other shapes work well backside too. This boards on bigger waves has given me so much more confidence on big open days

Stoked on this 7'10 Vaquero I picked up last week. Little less than 3" through the middle, with a bit beefier rails than my other one. Kinda crazy how much of a difference you feel, so far feels really great but have only had it out on < shoulder high.

I've found that in decent sized waves, a Serena works better backside. I figure the pulled in tail is responsible. I recall reading how Marc said he spent many years refining the Serena so it would perform well backside.

i've been riding my special k a fair bit recently and definitely feels better backside then a similar sized vaquero - like hankster said having a bit more pulled in tail helps and i've found the increased V behind the fin helps too

the special k has been phenomenal in up to head high waves (waiting for winter swells) both frontside and backside - a bit looser than as serena pocket rocket as expected which will be reserved for larger waves and steeper drops, backside feels ok but mostly its just been a grip it and rip it backside board for me
