Does anyone have a board review on one of these? I'm curious how they handle beach breaks. Can they hang in a bit bigger surf? Any other comments you have would be greatly appreciated. In talks with him right now about getting a custom and would just like to know your guys' feedback if you have a mega fish in 9'11!

I have one that is at least 6 years old, and I love it. Does great on larger days, gets in early, holds a line but still turns. Mine has fuller like 60/40 rails, but I think the newer ones are more down rail and have more concave.
It's not my favorite in beach break closeouts, the low rocker hurts it there, but nothing works particularly well those conditions anyway.

They go well at bigger old man’s, and I believe that’s what they were designed for. The ones I had were bulky so I never surfed in beach break. I got up Kyle a couple weeks ago and he quoted me 6-9 months. They have two 9’11s at Thalia surf shop right now if you’re interested in off the rack

Had one for a bit. The board definitely does well in bigger surf, very fast and agile for its size. Surfed it at bigger HB during high tide where the waves tend to roll. It was fun. Also turns to a glider when it’s small. Sold it and only have the 8’6 now. Kyle makes great boards. I would stick to his magic sizes at 8’6 and 9’11, but I’m biased as I’ve only tried these…

where did the 8'6 being a so-called magic size come from? Asking because I'm going back and forth on pulling the trigger on a custom, size range 8'6-9'1 and I can't quite settle yet.

True Kyle does the shape in a lot of sizes. I feel I have heard the magic reference tossed around about the size from word of mouth. But this could also be because a lot of the early versions (and stock boards) often came in the sizes of 8’0, 8’6, and 9’11? So he’a shaped more of them, dialed them in?? But I’m just some guy from the interwebz. Maybe ask him his recommendation if you’re going custom?

To me the 8’6 is magic because it’s big enough to make 2-4ft surf fun. It’s somewhat small enough to take out in bigger surf and have a lot of fun on, it opens up a whole new gear, without the pain of having a super big board of that makes sense? And my local is beach break. If I could only surf one board it would be this.

8'6 checking in, can confirm magic. The longest I've ridden is 9'2 and it felt more like a longboard than a long midlength. Have heard that beyond that, they get pretty glider-y. I take my 8'6 out in anything - it's the only board in my quiver I throw in my car without knowing which break I'll end up at. Also the board I'm most comfortable dropping in backside at sloppy beach breaks.

I can see being tempted to go more towards 8', but I feel like I've seen more "WTT: 8' Megafish for 8'6" threads here than the other way around. Length can be deceiving with triplanes, so I can see how people would end up going too short.
