I finally got around to building and trying the Soulboardiy deck I picked up:
Used my latest Yow clones which are not *exactly* the same as the ones on the Dragon (taller board sidd bushing required) but its very close. Middle front holes = same wheelbase.
Only rode it a day but really...
More good surf skate supply news for north San Diego county. These folks in Carlsbad are US sellers of till recently impossible to get things:
https://statusskateshop.com/
They have Yow, Smoothstar, and Souboardiy stuff on the wall next to Carver and Hamboard stuff, and a great fenced off...
Great news - Smoothstar is selling in the United States! I saw the full collection in stores in Solana Beach and Encinitas a few days ago :-)
Meanwhile, the "Leseur" brand of Yow clones stopped selling on Amazon. I found another name that makes good ones but this time I won't post their name...
Missed this before - the 34" Kai Lenny Dragon with Yow trucks is now my favorite board. Rides like a shorter board but its wide with deep concaves at both ends in good ways. Still like my 32.5" Black Tip but I always reach for the Dragon. It's just crazy for control in good ways and I feel...
Don't disagree with this at all - just a fun board that's more performance-y than a regular long board in not-so performance waves. Which is pretty much normal south SD :-D OH and above or even 3+ ft reliable waves are a different thing.
Meanwhile...any chance you could compare the TJP to the...
Welcome! I feel like you just waved a red cape in front of 80% of this forum  But here goes...
I still have one of the original TJ Pros from ~10 years ago. But, that thing really needs a short board wave with lots of power behind it to fire, and at that point you might as well be on a...
New skate deck that's probably my new favorite - Kai Lenny's signature 34" Carver, but with my Yow clone trucks on it. Here it is next to my 32.5" Blacktip. Has the same deep concaves, but its a lot wider and really only a bit longer (half inch wheelbase).
I still love the Blacktip but the...
I generally like thruster, quad, and 2+1 things. But the Parallax or 8'0" Outlier with the 9.5" or 10.5" Parallax single fin really make me wonder why sometimes.
How dare you, right after I got my tax return...
I'm actually curious about the Ova now after the comments here. If its maybe a bit higher performance tail than my Moe, may like it. The ads make it sound like a plain fun shape.
Yeah, that's awesome @Chilly Willy !
So, finally my experiment is real...medium bushings and Riptide pivot cups in both, slightly bigger wheels (70mm vs. 65mm) but also slightly harder (86a vs 83a) on the Carver :-D
If "loose" = "moves easily," my C7 is actually looser than the Yow even...
Light metallic blue 1986 Nissan Truck, before the introduction of the "hard body" style for 1986.5. Vinyl floors and bench seat, only options were a chrome bumper and "California" swing-out mirrors. Occurs to me often it would have made for a fantastic surf vehicle three decades later!
I now...
No but that is interesting. If I'd seen that site I'd like something from them more than the 9.25" wide board I picked up from skateshred. Wider is better for sure, their stretch panhead looks great for a long option!
My favorite boards are all around 10 inches. 11 inches may be better...
Twitchy left-to-right is pretty dead on for the Smoothstar. Interesting you noticed the wheels are less grippy, they're just a touch less than the stock Carvers but I think there's something about the board that makes it prone to slide the wrong way. I lift the front wheels a lot on it if I'm...
Yeah I went back and looked at the photos...I think they are true to scale, most of them do thin out quite a bit. I think I was okay with my Glass Off for general pumping until I really tried inching up over the front truck to slide and whatnot more.
Blacktip is way better, and does have...
Some more experimenting...I picked up a Carver Blacktip 32" board and put the Yow trucks on it. The Blacktip has a lot of concave and is pretty fun. This board plus the Yow trucks and medium-ish wheels is the easiest and least dramatic sliding combo I've tried yet. But anyways, here's the...
