"We had an absolute blast riding it but it was very hard to ride. It paddles in a straight line better than any surfboard I've paddled. It's no wonder Tom won races on this thing. Turning is another story. Tilt your feet right and it goes left!"

Of course it's very un- Australian to set such high prices, as in Australia everyone has to stay at the same level, carefully eying each other to make sure that no one tries to move.. .

We have been having a great reaction to the boards and the prices, and the boards are appearing in several luxury goods books and magazines, we've had a steady stream of requests from editors of these publications for pictures and so on. Keep a look out for the New book 'luxury toys for men' which is currently being printed in 5 languages and which features my creations.

To put the price in perspective, for a person with an income of $ 50,000,000 per year the price is equivalent to me spending $50 on a board.

We recently raised our prices on the advice of experts in the field of luxury goods who said that the prices were much too low previously.

.

In a free market the price will find its own level.

It's not a free market situation.

We have a monopoly so we can set the price.

The market is still free, IMHO, and anyone can enter it if they choose.  Their product will compete with yours.  Quality, design, etc will be considered by potential customers and they will make their decision.  Beware of cheap immitations!

My math is assuming the $35,000 asking price from ebay a while back. I didn't click the link above.

so then you make $71,428.57 a year?

All it will take is one oil rich sheik who sees one of Roy's boards in a luxury goods magazine, wants to put one of Roy's boards on the wall of his new palatial 4th home in The Palm Jebel Ali in Dubai and Roy will have the last laugh.

That's all!

Classic.

No. I'll be laughing. Roy would have sold a board that never got surfed.

Perfect. Roy has great craftmanship skills. His boards function remain in dispute.

Maybe Roy will use a giant clam as a tubercle fin.

Maybe.

It amuses me that you assume that such a board would never be surfed. I don't see any basis for that assumption.

Furthermore if one board is hung on a wall and I receive US $528,000 for it, the net result will be that a lot more of my boards are built and ridden.

The boards function superbly, and out perform other longboards with ease. Anyone who denies or doubts this is in a state of ignorance, wilful or otherwise.

It amuses me that you were amused. So there!

It was the "put on the wall" bit...well that and "the oil rich sheik ". Anyone know of an oil rich sheik that surfs?

No. I didn't think so.

Rich oil sheik WHO surfs not THAT surfs. ..  and you didn't leave time for an answer.

The list of extremely wealthy people also includes bankers, rock stars, movie stars politicians  and many others, so is not limited to sheiks.

Besides, it is not necessary to have previous surfing experience in order to buy a board.

Half a million for a surfboard?  Well it DOES have an exceptionally low chord ratio... ;)  Roy, when are we gonna see some video or pics of your Original Simm board in action?  That one looked kinda cool... thanks.
