Looking forward to seeing the finished board. Exceptionally nice.
This post prompted me to visit the site of Mr. Phillips. I had not visited for some time, and was very impressed with the new, to me, pictures in the gallery. As always, some fantastic work by Jim. I especially like the boards with the "Model A" type stringer set-up's. The yellow SWT is something else, as is the Inter Island Surf Shop. The stringer work of Jim is without equal.
The Balsa collaboration with GC is obviously something special.

You're welcome MD.

This is what I would call a "close tolerance" balsa blank by Jim. He glued it up, cut off the corners of the blank and in the "action" photo he's just smoothing out some of the high spots. It's off to Gene any day now to get all shaped up and fitted for it's tux. Enjoy....

JP's and GC's sites are always good places for seeing subzero boards - Chambered yes I think so and the size is 9'6" x23 X3 and a bit I think. The Hornet is my favorite rider. The C2's are my fave looking at boards at the moment - the JP/GC 9'1" Calendar and JP/GC 1967 are so cool and exceptional quality.  That blank under the bench looks interesting and the board on the right anyone thinking about a new board needs to speak with these guys - nice one :D

Yes, I tried to change a couple or 3 years ago but they couldn't do it then and still be linked to old posts. Asked yesterday to just become a new member named miles and was given the option to change the old name instead so that's what happened.

None of my Hornets have concave - sorry for the confusion: if fact none of my Coops have concave up front however the C2's are real beauties with concave through the tail - nice :). If anyone has any opinions on the relative merits of concave in Hornets please join in - I am strictly leaving the whole shaping glassing deal with Gene.

MD-  You ARE going to ride this, correct?  I sure hope so....but would obviously understand if it were to hit the wall and appreciate (and be appreciated).  Boy, if I win the lottery, Gene's getting an order for a 10'6" balsa Hornet with a little slender concave and a triple redwood stringer glue-up.

And it'll be a rider because I'll also order a backup to sit on the wall, until needed, of course!

Here's to hoping!

Hi Eric - I too hope you win the lottery :). I am going to ride the balsa every day I can. The calendar C2's are sitting waiting in the rack for the day when the planets align and I will surf them regularly.  I think that you only get one chance so if you truly want a custom balsa Hornet or anything else for that matter - go for it (within reason of course).

Wow that is something? When I get my old german car out of the garage I'm going to have me a go at one of those. Obviously won't be in the same ball park or even galaxy as that, but you gotta dream, right.

When the launch? I'll bring the pain, Champagne that is ;)

O lucky man!

Good grief!  What a beauty!  I'm in looooooooooooooooove!  Let us know when it's glassed.....which begs the question....how is it being glassed?  Six oz (2x top, 1x bottom) or more heavily?

Shellac coat then one layer of glass with 3" lap, ghost dot transparent amber fin and logo.  This board will be relatively light - JP chambered the blank - what a great job.  And when a shaper goes long..............go and see JP/GC and Andrew and they will sort you out.
