I clearly have a real board-buying issue... seriously...

I had swore myself off buying boards for a while, but my friend had just picked up a Dyna Glide longboard from Oak Foils and we swapped boards out in the line up a few weeks back...damn it!  That fricken thing was magic.  It just felt so solid in the pocket.  It was a good day for local conditions.  Clean, glassy... maybe chest high with some HH standouts.  The board worked so well...it was a really interesting contrast to my usual ride in those conditions which is a super lightweight 2# EPS 9'6 2+1 Oak Foils perf longboard.

Anyway, I called up Wayne and I had to order one... a clone of that board.  He managed to shape the board within 36 hours or so and it was off to the glasser (hell maybe it was 24 hours... the guy is incredible).

The board is 9'4 x 17.75" x 23.5 x 15.125" x 3.4".  I've been digging on EPS boards lately, but I wanted this one in poly because it rode so damn well.  Blair foam blank and super light  4+4/4 glassing with a sand finish.  The guy that Wayne is using for glass jobs is really talented.  I was impressed with how this one came out -- super clean and a quick turnaround.  The glass job is light (almost feels like EPS weight -- freaky) and if it's anything like my poly shortboard from Oak Foils in 4+4/4, it's super durable too  -- the combination of solid glassing and Blair foam is a keeper.

Anyway, I managed to wax the board up and give it a maiden voyage during this AM's dawn patrol.  The conditions were pretty lacking... either way, I focused on either staying on the tail and getting a feel for the turning capabilities of the board or trying to walk toward the nose.  As far as turning goes, the board may very well be the loosest easiest turning "longer board" that I've ever ridden.  The board was fluid through the turns and I don't think I was even on the tail completely.  After my first wave, I just started thinking -- damn -- this board is FRICKEN easy to ride.  Hell, I can't wait to get it out tomorrow!

By the way, I can't say enough positive things about the experience of working with Wayne on this board and pretty much all the other boards I've had from him in the

So I'll give you guys a better ride report once I've had a bit more time on 'er... but for now, it's another magic board from Oak Foils... here are the goods:

PS.  Yes that's a 9" Rainbow Rake in bamboo.  No I ordered it in regular composite/glass -- but they were out of stock and kindly gave me one at no extra charge.  Yes, Benny told me about the Rainbow Rake years ago and I am indebted still because it is one of the most badass fins I've ever ridden (although the Farberow Flex has its place in my hall of fame).

PPS.  Yes I know I need another set of 'box fillers' for the front pair.  I forgot to get them because I was thinking I'd ride the board 2+1 for a while, then single... blah.

Lovely board, mmmmlicious and versitile looking.

My house has a 12ft ceiling, fantastic for storing boards...but a bitch to heat up the winter.

You're not seeing things.  I grabbed one pair with the board (b/c I thought I was going to ride it 2+1 using sidebites in the front boxes).  It looks sort of silly with just the center fin and one set of boxes filled but the other open.

My pals have had to call Future Fins directly to get the box fillers -- kind of silly.  I think they're surprisingly pricey too.  Fin stuff is so fricken frustrating.  Oh well...

Twiz,

I've been really impressed with what I have seen come out of Wayne's shaping bay.  Glad to see a fellow LB figure out the wings, a squash/diamond tail and an effective rocker which puts only 7' on the water surface (unloaded).  Boards of this nature can lead to some ultimate fun.  I've been surfing this type of board since 1987.  Total loose yet stable to cross step to the nose and camp out.

Nice board and stoked your having fun on it!

Man,  local spots are a total bust today.  That's called the new board blues.

My pal is around 6'4 220.  I'm 6' 185.

Given our local conditions (and the fact that we're likely headed into a mushburger summer), I wanted to stay really conservative on volume to ensure that I had a board that worked really well with the dribblers, yet was a bit shorter than  a more standard 9'6er or 9'8er.

I'm a big fan of foam -- particularly with the surf conditions that we've been handed lately.  Heck most of my boards are in the 3.25"+ thickness range -- including this insane EPS wave harvesting longboard that Wayne made that's a 10' 3.75" thick beast (with an amazing pulled in tail that turns incredibly well -- go figure).
