Anyone know where I can find information on Petrillo Boards shaped in the late 60's?

Or if youve got contact info for Frank Petrillo you can contact me directly at southernaut@gmail.com...

Petrillo was the "house brand" at the Frog House in Newport Beach during the mid to late 60's. My first brand new board was a 10' Petrillo with three redwood stringers that I bought from the Frog House in 1967. I was a skinny 14 year old kid and there was no way I could make that thing turn. I had many fun sessions at Ray Bay in Seal Beach riding that board straight up the channel.

DT, I just picked up a 1967 minigun, glassed in red skeg... The Frog House gave me some history on it, said Frank Petrillo gave up shaping and now builds houses in southern Cal. You know anyone who might be up to tackling the restoration?

I don't know about Frank Petrillo, but Cort Goin lives in Oregon and is still shaping.

Not sure just what you want to know here. IF you are wondering about their shop, it was during the 70s in Hermosa Beach. Had a little shop on PCH, just north of the old Jacobs shop. Mike Purpus, and others surfed their label.

The board I got is from the first year of production so I am looking to find info on the shapers who might have worked for Petrillo - Velzy I believe was there at one time. Hoping that someone could offer a backstory on the mid 60's Petrillo Minigun model as this one's not signed by the shaper.
Also trying to find someone to tackle the restoration. Its beyond my abilities and I would really like to see it shine.
I've got a couple Cort Gion boards myself NJL, would be nice to have him handle it but last I talked to him he seems pretty busy with shaping his own...

I could be wrong on this, but I don't think Velzy ever shaped at Petrillo. Petrillo had no longboards at that time either.

Here is a link to an article on Mike Purpus and Dru Harrison that references Petrillo:

Thanks grush, I  wondered where that guy was these days, and I'm sure many others did too.  :P

Cort Goin is still shaping.  He lives up in Oregon and also shapes a lot of wind-related boards for the Gorge.

I'll be darned. I would of never thought Velzy had shaped any boards for Petrillo. The things were all shortboards. I certainly never heard about it during the days the shop was open and I was around there then.

Thanks for the info!

Hey Surfertom,
You might have missed my earlier post where I mentioned purchasing a 10' Petrillo in 1967 from the Frog House, so Petrillo definitely was making longboards in 1967. I also purchased a 7'6" Petrillo in 1969 from the Frog House. I think a year or so after that, the Petrillo label was replaced by a brand called Small Faces.

happy to see that I generated some dialogue, but does anyone have answers to my question re: Petrillo's shapers in the 1960's -or- who or what website might be a resource?
