Anyone know the difference between Xcel and Xcel Hawaii wetsuits. Appears to be the same suit and same image

Same company, same suit. Get it from Steepandcheap. I have the exact same 5/4 and it's a great value at that price. Very warm and stretchy for NY winters.

Thanks for the heads-up. Ordered and received mine today - seems like it's gonna be toasty (and a bit of an adventure getting in and out of).

Yep, I got mine today also. Fits perfect. What a nice suit for a super price. Backcountry must have had to list it that way to sell them at that price. But is fully labeled as an Xcel.

Sightpoint, thanks for building my confidence to buy it.

There is still a S and LS available.

Yes that is what most 5/4 say if not higher temps. The new Oneil $500 5.5/4 pscho says 45 and up and most 5/4s are similar if not higher. I assume liability issues.

the new flashbomb 5/4 is rated at 52 degrees and up for $469

but the real test will come in a few months.

Yup - I’ve been rocking a low-grade quicksilver 5/4 straight thru the winter the past 2 seasons - this one seems much warmer (lined all the way down the legs). Limiting factor in the cold months for me seems to be more fatigue than anything, so I’m usually pretty much ready to pack it in anyhow once my core starts to get chilly (typically after 1-1/2 to 2 hours).

    Of course, there’s this disclaimer:

    * Water temperature ratings are only a guide and are very subjective. If you are cold, get out of the water and seek warmth.

    Good advice!

Leftlane has a bunch of xcel suits marked down an additional 31% for Halloween. I got a nice 4/3 drylock in stretchy Japanese limestone for $180.

A quick first-impression review of the 5/4: wore it this morning for a dawn session. This thing is WARM. Water is 52 deg by the closest NDBC station - air was warmer than usual this am too (mid 50s), but I was downright hot in this suit. I had to flush it several times just to cool off. I've been wearing my old Quick 5/4 for a few sessions now and this one is appreciably warmer. Seems slightly heavier than that other suit (probably because of the fleece-like lining everywhere except the arms), but was quite a bit more flexible. Not too bad to get in and out of - the lining made it easy to slide off the legs (doesn't stick to your skin as much). I think I'll be pretty happy with it.
