Training for the Dads

    I might get called out for this being the kookiest technique ever, but it’s worked for me!

    My view is that the best way to get into surfing shape is by surfing, but sometimes the ocean isn’t within reach.

    So, grab a medicine ball and a shitty beater board that you don’t care about. Put the board on top of the medicine ball so that it’s balancing on the ball (preferably a heavily glassed log so it doesn’t snap).. Grab two 5lb weights (1 in each hand). Lay on the board just like you’re surfing, and paddle for as long as you can with the weights in your hands. Balancing the board on the ball will work your core just like when you’re paddling, and swinging your arms while holding the weights does a damn good job of mimicking actually water resistance.

    Yes I’m a kook, but it works for me!

    SUP or Prone paddleboard for training. Was going to get a 12'6 stand up but a line on a 14' prone just came in............. I'm about 3 min to some great back bay paddling.

    where did you get a prone? I've been looking for one on the east coats for a long time, but nothing comes up.

    50 years old 3 kids 11 13 and 14
    Here's my 30 min workout I did yesterday.
    3 songs on the Schwinn Airdyne bike I found in the trash.
    Push ups
    Jumping jacks
    Jump sprawls
    Sit ups
    Goblet squats w a sand bag
    X 20 for 3 rounds no breaks .
    Hits a lot and you'll break a sweat .

    It's a slippery slope right there. Since I live a stone throw from the bay I did exactly that - bought 14 footer telling myself it's for practicing on calm days. Well, guess what, I'm taking it out when there are waves more than when its flat. It's downwind board, so I'm having a lot of fun chasing small bumps along the coast. I actually think it improved my surfing too.
