Yes, best of luck to you and yours. Although, there are those who think that they are going to hunker down and "ride it out". Which might be fine if they were not so close to the coast and in such low lying areas! As a wise old sage once said: You can hide from the wind but, you must run from the water, , , ,".

    From the NWS, Tallahassee:
Storm surge picture from this morning around 6:30am near Rock Landing Florida (near Panacea). Can't stress this enough, these impacts from the surge is only the beginning, it's going to get higher! #Surge #FLwx #HurricaneMichael

for many years climate scientists have been warning of storms of this magnitude from this unusual direction to be expected as part of the new normal of ongoing climate change. Forward thinking community planners are calling for either a managed retreat from the coast (similar to San Francisco, having closed Highway 1 at the south end of OB after decades of fighting beach erosion) and/or a dramatic change in sea level building codes, requiring hurricane survivable construction standards such as lower profile concrete structures, bolted metal roofs, reinforced glass windows, companies pay-out on post-event homeowner loss, however, will never get close to such rebuild costs...

So what do these poor folks do post-event..many have not only lost their homes, they lost their jobs as well, the businesses they worked washed away with the rest...entire families now homeless...if there was ever a time for our government to lend a helping hand, it's in situations like this.., only never going to happen when those in power are creating the largest national debt in our nations history via their insane tax cuts for corporations and the uber-rich..

vote, locally, vote nationally...and hopefully, for candidates that want to help everyone, not just the select few..on either side

    That sentiment is worth repeating.

Votes are responsible for our current political environment.

the problem isn't with voting, it's with the rigged electoral college system, otherwise the popular vote would have changed the election results for 2 of the last 4 presidential races.

We live in a county where 1 in 6 school kids is homeless. Because of the joint efforts of a concerned citizens group we support, a caring school board, and an intense county election effort, we now provide these kids with free breakfast and lunch every day, and on Friday's give them food to take home for the weekend.

yea, voting matters, it matters a whole f'n lot...
