Cheers y'all! Thanks for the thoughts. I look forward to feeling the feeling of going fast be it real, imagined, perceived or otherwise!

Funny, I never saw surfing 'speed' statistics until just yesterday. During the WSL contest at Pipeline they showed a graphic for stand up pro surfers top speeds at different tour venues. I didn't commit them to memory but the fastest two spots were Pipeline and Teahopo sp? Both spots pros will top 32 mph!

Isnt a surf mat a current term for what was once called a raft? You guys know...those yellow and blue rubberized canvas inflatable things you spent hours on before you got your first board.

Sort of the same as saying the cars of the 60's are the same as today's cars. A lot of improvements in materials and design, with rocker, shape and bottom contours all being configured by the mat maker to change performance. Here is an example at Grahame Webster's blog - https://customsurfmats.com/blog/

    "...heightened sense of speed..."
    sounds logical.

Glad you got something out of the article, although it seems you made that point before. But then again, maybe I'm beating a broken drum on the topic of mat surfing.
