I have had an interesting day...but first my naive question..
I am thinking of picking up that 10.6 x 24 x 3 5/8 george glider from the boardsource..
What size fin? Jon was saying 8.5 skip..up to 9.5" 4A..the latter sounds huge..
    I have a 8" 4A...and i keep reading..don't over fin..

Secondly, ill have some time to contemplate it..because..
I tried to late drop.. back door an overhead wave.. sewer peak..
    Made the drop..tucked in
    (shameless deadshaper vmachine was awesome..
Felt a little slidey..because of the futures controllers.
I do prefer tri or 5..but hey thats me..).then i dunno..
    Curtain call..i get clamshelled..
Next thing im underwater getting rolled..on the reef of the penguiy bowl..a
I come up..bang..controller fin to the head..
    Right before the hairline..
And of course..crimson curtain in my eye
No matter how bad ...all head wounds
" bleed like stink" as we used to
    Say in the operating room..

Stitches..i wanted staples..they laughed at knuckle dragger
    Me .." ortho boy"...hey i
    Don't want wound dehiscence..
    Plus cool railroad track scar..
Just like my oldest daughter..same spot..wieird..huh?
    Oh well....i can watch
    The nick gabaladon movie...
    Hot gen..evolution...
    Get psyched for the
Wayne lynch shape off at del mar
    In may

Bummers about your injury. Speedy recovery to you. And count your blessings, a few inches lower and perhaps your eye(s) would have been hit.

I have a custom 10’7” glider by Two Crows Hawai’i. I read this thread too regarding fin selection and lucky to have friends with extra fins to borrow. First off, the shaper (Carl) recommended an 8” to 9” fin with a narrow/pointy tip. He agreed with the shape of the Greenough 4a. So I started with a 9” 4a and worked my down to a 7.5”. I found that the 7.5” was enough to hold me on the bottom turns and go down the line the fastest. The bigger fins felt a tad slower down the line and not able to get ahead of the break/wave. The waves ranged from knee to head high; I’ve been surfing my glider since Nov jus about every morning. I eventually bought a 7.5” Skip fin because my board is a Skip clone and the shape of the Skip fin is very similar to the 4a.

And a shoutout for Jon and Kevin @ The Board Source. A great place to get in trouble with your significant other; I bought 3 boards from them last year.

Marlin at 101 makes some of the best!!! For our crappy waves here I like his non flex 4A/Skip mix match. I use a 9" when surfing them as single fins and 7.5" as 2+1. They have made a few boards I had given up on come alive and become keepers.

Myself I’ve found the True Ames Skip 8” worked perfecto in an 11’ Eavey Eagle style single
Also found the old Capt Fin 8”
Joel tudor worked well in super clean fragile conditions

4A is always my go to but no matter how big or small they never worked with the big boards for me

    Right there with you DanSan
My Stepchild has a Salty Merchants Elevator Jam in it for the last many years
    Does it like nothing else
Always said spend 100 bucks on a fin and save 950 or so on a board...
    Sorry for rambling on-
    Back on subject!

I have a buddy that swears by the Velzy Classic with the thin finger in his gliders

Not that I am well versed in gliderdom, but I ran a 8.5 Thomas Bexon TCSS in my 11ft Eagle replica and it seemed like a good fit

I actually scored a TCSS 10.5 Mick Rodgers fin for my arrow it.

Funny i contacted the shaper..George Traditional Surfboards..
About the big glider i picked up
from The Board Source( deal with)
Asking about fins.for it...and he keeps replying..
"So do you want to order a board..?"..
    I dunno..maybe its me..after all i do have a recent head injury
So i must garbled or rambling..or obtuse..
